Newmillerdam

This morning we had our first outing to an orienteering event in several weeks.  My flu and Tony's heavy cold has knocked us for six and we are only just coming round so it was lovely to see blue sky over Newmillerdam.  At the start a sudden gust of wind picked up one of the maps in the start lane and blew it towards the lake.  I chased after it and it plastered itself around a duck's bottom (much to its consternation) before landing in the water!  I set off too quickly and felt pretty rough by the time I got up the hill so was sensible and took it easy after that, stopping at the top of the next big hill to take advantage of a bench and blip Graham coming up behind me.  The wood was lovely with the winter sun slanting through it and the going remarkably clear underfoot (Newmillerdam has had a bit of a reputation for brambles in the past) so all in all it was an enjoyable first bit of exercise and good to be able to wish lots of o-pals a Merry Christmas.
