Sgwarnog: In the Field

Whitworth Window

We were dining in style at the end of the first day of the HEA Conference - the University of Manchester's Whitworth Hall provided a fine setting. This window fills one end of the hall, and features the coats of arms of benefactors to the university. Worth viewing large.

The conference itself started well with an energising keynote from Martin Bean, which is worth watching (video here) if you're at all interested in the way technology is transforming our lives and organisations. We then had a good selection of parallel sessions.

The conference also provided an opportunity for digital and corporeal worlds to collide as I met various folk I'd spent years years conversing with on Twitter, but never seen face to face. It's getting to the point where I'm not quite sure if I have 'met' people or not, or whether it was face to face first, or in the digital realm. Then there were all the people that I exchanged ideas with online during the conference, but didn't get round to having a proper conversation with.

There were no encounters with fellow blippers on Day1, but stay tuned...
