After the Storm

Watching the news yesterday I saw a familiar face -  a man being interviewed about the fact he was making sandbags to protect his house against the River Ribble which was only yards from his door.  I remember when Eric and Sarah bought their dream property along the river, they were so happy  - but of course that was years ago before our weather patterns began to change.

This morning we went down to the nature reserve and in my main pic you can just see someone looking at a sunken house boat;  this is the canal of course, and the River Calder runs parallel to it.   Just a little to the right of this shot the damage that's been caused is a different story, and further along towards Elland we saw crowds of people looking at boats, bridges, freezers and general debris and rubbish that the river had brought down in its wake.  The damage and mess is unimaginable and although I've watched this kind of thing on the news it's only actually seeing it that's brought it home.   My extras show the bird hide underwater .
