Botanic Gardens Mt Tomah Australia

Today we drove up to meet our daughter, son in law and children from Sydney in the Blue Mountains. This spot is about half way, an hour and a half drive for each...our other daughter and children came as well so we had a picnic ( Christmas left overs) in the most beautiful spot, luxuriant soft green lawn, mature gum trees and clean and tidy picnic tables. We didn't have to even open our wallets to get in to the gardens.

Tomah is the Aboriginal word for tree fern. The Botanic Garden was started in the 70s, before that time it was a garden supplying flowers for the markets. Here they have some Wollemi pines, now grown into a decent sized tree, they were not discovered until recently in a remote valley to the north and their habitat is still a secret.there are only a few hundred in the wild so it's a thrill to see them in other gardens. The site is volcanic so grows large specimens of trees and alpine plants seem to thrive.
