Not Inverness

Today's the day ..................... to be thwarted

This really is not where I expected to be at this time today.

We set the alarm for 5.45am this morning so that we would be out the house and ready to catch the 7.20am train from Oxenholme Lake District to Inverness.  We knew it wouldn't be quite the journey that we had originally booked because you can't now get a train all the way to Edinburgh because of repairs to the line after the floods.  You have to get a bus at Lockerbie - but that would be ok.  Will had spent ages on the phone with a very helpful ScotRail man yesterday who had re-booked us to go via Aberdeen after Edinburgh.  That would avoid having to take another bus from Perth - again because of flood damage.

But headline news on the radio at 6.00am was all about the terrible floods that had happened in the early hours of the morning - in Aberdeenshire.  All rail services in and out of Aberdeen had been cancelled until further notice.  It didn't take us long to work out that our planned journey to Inverness - whichever way we tried to go - was just not going to be on.

So here I am in Kendal - feeling very sympathetic and sorry for the poor people of Scotland's north-east ..........................
