A coal mining village

A farming village in the very heart of the Welsh Valleys, sheep freely grazing until black gold was found. Industrialised growth saw landscape littered by pit heads and farms replaced by machinery and emerging railways. Until the end, blamed on Thatcher but financially inevitable; the landscape adapted to fill the void. Mountain Biking replaced the railway tracks and new faces arrived in the village hopefully to bring new life and hopes. Fishing in the newly formed ponds and tourism; who would have thought. It is a place to visit, the Afan Valley
