Fur Coat and Hat Day

Winter has definitely arrived, and it was wonderful to feel that crisp cold air on my skin today. It made me realise just how mild it's been for so very long. There was a bit of bus stop banter going on here. You can make up your own story. It feels like a while since I've posted one of these microcosmic mirrors on Market Square life.

By chance I bumped into Lemmi today. He's a musician and the conversation immediately turned to Bowie. The very first gig that Lemmi went to in the 70s was a Bowie gig. His fate was perhaps sealed that night. Bowie has been an inspiration to so many, especially in terms of the continuous reinvention of himself. There's not too many people who can pull that off.

There have been some wonderful tributes on blip today - and indeed it was through looking at the thumbnails on blip this morning that I realised that he'd been lost it us. Just as was the case when Steve Jobs died, which I found out about in the same way, the creative photographic tributes in blip were somehow more affecting than those on the mainstream media. It was just so obvious how much he meant to almost everyone. This is where blip becomes a very special place indeed, and where it perhaps transcends the parochial to become something much more important than the simple record of the quotidian in our individual lives.
