It's wet today (again)

More heavy rain in Edinburgh and there are flood warnings in place all along the Water of Leith. I wonder a little if things would be quite as bad downstream if this scene was wetter than it is here. The former water meadows at Roseburn Park, around Murrayfield stadium should be the river's natural overflow. As far as I can see there are decent walls to protect the Roseburn streets that flooded badly in previous floods, but is there a way to use the playing fields as a safety valve when the river is so high? Not just here, but at other places along the river too - a series of flood plains to fill up when the water level in the river is high. Elsewhere the footpath alongside the river was completely submerged in one section. Replaced by a raging torrent that required a detour up to the old railway line and back down again. And there had been a bit of overspill in the cauldron area but it was still passable. The weir looked pretty impressive, although another walker said it had been a foot higher earlier in the day, with all sorts of debris, including massive tree trunks, floating downstream. Downstream is where there seem to be more problems, with flooding in Stockbridge and Canonmills I hear.
