Martinique Houses

Today, we are visiting the lush green island of Martinique.  This is a view of some of the many colourful houses all jammed together near the waterfront, and climbing up the hillside of the principal town of Fort-de-France.

As it is Sunday, everything is closed up tight, so not much to see when wandering the streets except for closed shutters!  However, around 3:00 this afternoon, crazy festive horns and drums could be heard as a Carnivale got underway.  Lots and lots of people lined the streets, as floats, huge puppets, musicians, and brightly dressed people paraded through the town.  I don't handle crowds well, so I watched from the safety of the top deck of our ship.  I was amazed at how well my camera managed to capture the action, even though it was at least a quarter mile away!

When we returned to our cabin this afternoon, we found a nice surprise on our door -- a magnetic sign showing the world that we are on a "Grand Voyage".
