Job done.

Between 1894 and 1905 Wetmorland County Council erected 139 cast iron finger posts. They were made at Victoria Foundry in Penrith.

About 30 of them remain. Number 5 which is along the shore from Arnside village had fallen into a poor condition. The Arnside/Silverdale AONB Landscape Trust took the initiative and with its own funds and other grants from others, including The Barnes Charitable Trust, it has been able to pay for a full restoration from an expert who specialises in bringing such signs back to good health.

Last Friday No. 5 was reinstalled and stands proudly by the shore ready for another century of guiding walkers.
