mcmanus museum, Dundee

No, I haven't forgotten to use capitals, but this is how this museum in Dundee styles itself:-)  Goodness knows why!

Very long, cold and frustrating day in Dundee having my car serviced and MOT'd.  Left home at 8.30 am and got the car to the garage by 9.15 am.  Did not get home again until 5.30 pm, having hung around the town most of that time waiting for the work to be done and the transport to arrive to return us to the garage.

In between, we walked out of loads of shops because of the very loud and irritating music that they will insist on bombarding you with.  Even the charity shops are doing it now!!  Only found some peace and quiet when we had lunch in the mcmanus museum cafe and then walked round the ancient Howff graveyard nearby:-)  Some fascinating old headstones there (see Extras) and must try to find out what some of the symbols mean.

The skulls and bones are obvious, as is the timer, but what does the bell signify?  Is it possibly a reference to the metaphysical poet John Donne and his famous lines "Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind.  And never send to know for whom the bell tolls;  It tolls for thee".  Or is there a more prosaic reason?
