Cartagena, Colombia

Phew!  Is it ever HOT here in Cartagena!  We arrived here late this morning, and the air is very hazy -- I'm not sure if it's from pollution or if it's from the heat.  We realized that the tour we'd signed up for was going to show us exactly the same things we saw here last year, so we bailed.  Instead, we've had a wonderful day with the whole ship almost entirely to ourselves.  It's given me an extra day to get this wretched cold under control.

These pelicans were lined up on the hawsers of a huge old French cruise ship that's berthed next door to ours.  There must be at least 30 of them.  I love their big, flat feet!

Extras show a Colombian submarine patrolling the harbour, and some of the many cargo containers stacked on the dock, awaiting loading onto ships which are probably heading for the Panama Canal.  Also a shot of the old part of Cartagena.
