Waitakere trail running

A fabulous day.
Started early with a challenging but satisfying long run around some of the myriad of trails in the Waitakare hills. The old tram track and this reservoir for water supply were particularly interesting. It was good to be early in the day while it was still cool, especially nice amongst the big kauri trees up on the ridge. Some tracks are closed (see extras) because of kauri die-back disease, a fungal infection easily spread by foot traffic.
The day then morphed into a lazy afternoon, rather too hot to do much except a siesta in the shade followed by a swim at Cheltenham beach. Finished the evening with fish and chips under a pohutukawa tree and then a walk up Mt Victoria to watch the sunset and moonrise. Shame D is still in Christchurch and couldn't share any of this. I reckon tomorrow might be good for a full moon shot against a pink and violet eastern sky over Rangitoto. Fingers crossed for the right sky!
