Not Flying And Not A Scotsman!

Today The Flying Scotsman was supposed to come through Penrith on its inaugural run after being restored. At the last minute it was found that the brakes needed tweaked so a replacement was used. Well, two actually!

The Man and I  got into place to photograph the train as it travelled north on the outskirts of the town. We and several others stood for an hour and a half. The steam train didn't come!

Feeling cold and disappointed, AGAIN (last time the train set off early and we missed it), we went home. Googling it we discovered that the route had been reversed. That meant that we didn't get a chance for a shot of it at Culgaith in the afternoon, but we could go back to this handy spot and see it as it came down from Carlisle.

The two engines were 44871( formerlay called Sovereign, built 1945) and 45407 (The Lancashire Fuselier, built 1937), LMS Stanier Class 5s. They were pulling 9 carriages full of waving passengers. Even the driver is waving!
