Boom!

Last weekend my better half picked up a puncture on her bike so after the ride put a new inner tube in. When we went for a ride yesterday the tyre was flat and wouldn't inflate so she took her hybrid instead. This morning she swapped the tube over and replaced it. A few hours later we heard it burst! That's two brand new Specialized 700x20-28C 60mm Presta valve inner tubes that have burst without even being ridden.

Not happy about that at all, they aren't the cheapest tubes you can buy and you do expect to get a better tube if you don't pay bottom prices. I've sent an email to Evans to see what they have to say for themselves, especially as I have three more tubes bought at the same time of the same specification that may have the same problem if it's a manufacturing issue with that batch...

At least we found out why the soak-away at the front of the house wasn't soaking - the pipe into it was full of foul-smelling black goo. We dug the soak-away out and cleaned the pipe. We then refilled the whole trying to keep the clay soil out. We'll fit a filter at the top of the drain pipe to stop stuff going in....
