Takaka hill

Today we left Pohara and set off towards the west coast to stay in Westport over night and then the following day up to Karamea. Now to get out of Pohara you must first go across the Takaka hill (pictured in clouds in background of photo) This hill is 791 metres high and reportedly has 85 turns/twists/bends to negotiate before reaching the top and going back from Golden Bay to Abel Tasman bay; a good road though.

We drove along beautiful country state highway cutting out a big sector by not going into Nelson.
We got to our accomadation in Carters beach in Westport, right on the beach quite rough and rainy weather however the day was made when we came out of the supermarket and saw our friends M& N from Tauranga North island. What a small world!! We will have a supper with them tonight.
