Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Remembrance

We are meant to be remembering the dead of the First World War. The numbers killed are so huge as to be unimaginable. A gravestone in the the peaceful cemetery on the banks of the river Don at Inverurie reminds us of the enormity of the suffering of humanity during those 4 years of war. This farming family lost 2 sons in 2 short months in 1916 and their third son in 1917. How on earth did they cope with such grief and loss?
