Life in Newburgh on Ythan

The aftermath of the floods

During the recent heavy, heavy rain the rivers Don and Urie flooded parts of Inverurie and Port Elphinstone. The ancient graveyard which lies in a bend of the Urie was badly affected. A long stretch of the graveyard perimeter, robust iron fencing set into massive granite blocks, was toppled onto the pavement by the weight and force of the flood water. A number of large headstones were felled and  a large tree lies marooned amongst the graves. Nature is indeed formidable.
