Basilica of St Francis of Assisi

We went to Assisi today - what a beautiful little town. This is the Basilica of St Francis of Assisi which is absolutely stunning. We went downstairs to see the tomb of St Francis, which is apparently not always open so we were very lucky.

We had a lovely wander around the town, and there is lots of religion all over the town. I loved the little glass cases outside every shop with a selection of what they sold. Lots of religious souvenirs, of course, but other things as well. We had a great lunch (again!) and went to St Clare's too.

I bought a couple of St Francis crosses, one for my sister-in-law as she is Catholic and then went for a hot chocolate. Oh my goodness - so delicious! And thick enough to stand your spoon up in!

We then headed back down the hill to meet Keith and come home. Such a beautiful place, highly recommended if you're ever in the area.
