Weather

The weather had changed. It had been gusting all night and buffeting our little tent somewhat terrible, and then at 5am the rain started. Heavy rain.

Being in an area with numerous rivers and tributaries that we had to cross, we decided it was better to set off early than risk being stranded by swollen rivers. So in the pouring rain we had de-camped by 6.10 we had set off down the valley. Two hours walk to the bikes and then a little over an hours ride down the valley to the car.

After photo and rest stops we made it back by a little after 9 and fired up the stove for warm tea and fried bacon - yum (under cover of course). People might think that was slightly mad, but we loved it - the elements, the adventure - such fun! And no kids (although of course we were missing them - of course ... ;-)

However, unlike the old days when we were "tougher" we then headed to Lake Ohau Lodge for some comfort. We got there at 12, and after a long hot bath, a beer, and some reading we (or at last I) had a long sleep before dinner. Which was amazing - 3 courses, high country fare - sooo yummy!

And then bed again, 12 hours sleep - I never do that! Oh, that's right - no kids ;-)
