Back garden

We went out on an expedition this afternoon to buy socks - and came back with a couple of new smart phones.  Don't ask!

So I didn't have time to get up into the park which is a bit of a shame on such a lovely day.

However, the back garden was alive with all sorts of buzzy insects, mostly honey bees.  However there was also this bee fly (Bombyliidae spp).  .  It's a bee mimic, and if you didn't know you probably wouldn't know, if you know what I mean.  Their flight pattern is very similar to that of a bee, and they have the barred pattern on their bodies.  She's even got a slightly pointy bottom where the sting would be if she had one.

We get plenty of bee flies around at this time of year, but this one is much bigger than most I see.  The daisy is a seaside daisy which is much the same size as a regular lawn daisy in the northern hemisphere, so you can get a good idea of the size.
