Bending the knee

It was on this day, many moons ago, and not very far away from yesterday's photo... A disturbance in the force, a change of tack, a brainstorm... who can tell.

On a floating restaurant full of diners, in Bristol's floating harbour, I went down on one knee and held out a sparkly trinket. It could have gone either way... there was a mass holding of breath. And she said 'Yes'.

The cork comes from the bottle of champagne we were gifted by the restauranteur, who led the applause and declared we were the first ever to get engaged in his restaurant.

The old ten penny piece came from the pocket of a friend who was with us, and who wrote the date on the cork. The coin and cork have been inseparable ever since, and we've pretty much done likewise.

The boat is still there too, in the harbour. It's not called Knuts Landing any more. I don't remember why it was called so then. Names change over time... Janet's did too, a couple of years later.
