Dragon Lily

This is a Dracunculus Vulgaris commonly known as a Dragon Lily or Voodoo Lily. Many years ago when we were at our local Farmer's Market, we met a man who had bulbs from this plant that he was giving to people. His only stipulation was that you would promise to plant it. We took one and we planted it. And now we have several. Every year they grow these large flowers. This one is over a foot tall, just the flower itself, not the whole plant. They are really beautiful and quite stinky. They attract flies for pollination by giving off the smell of rotting meat. Luckily that only happens for about a day. Ours are now stink free and still beautiful. Large version is here.
