The Heron Screen

Polly H and I turned out at the Green Gym again today to help build the Heron screen at Linford Lakes. The idea is to clear a view over to an island on the lake, then to put a willow screen across the gap with letter box gaps strategically placed to allow photographers etc to watch the herons nesting without disturbing them.

Last week we cleared the gap and started coppicing willow.  This week we finished coppicing the willow, put the screen poles in places and started the willow weaving.  This final bit happened quite quickly, as usual most of the effort is in the preparation.

I've put an extra in so you can see an earlier stage with island visible through the gap and the poles being put in place.

Then it was off to a U3A photography meeting in the afternoon, which was very interesting.
