The Love Child Chronicles

Oh, No!

Oh, yes! Mika has grown quite a bit since we brought her home in April. In fact, she has gone into heat...again, and is making our live's miserable.

Of course, she isn't looking too happy either. Who would be happy after wandering around the house all night, crying out for a mate that never appears? Her cries of, "Oh, no," fill the otherwise quiet home with a sound akin to fingernails scratching down a chalk board. A very long chalk board.

I have discovered why my mom preferred male cats. We did have a couple of females along the way, and several litters of kittens as well. I remember the one female that my mom managed to get spayed. Her name was Jude. She ran away from home a short while later, and moved to another neighborhood. She would come visit us every now and then, eat our food, then leave.

Mika will get spayed soon. The timing just hasn't been right. She is an indoor cat, so there is no chance of her having babies, but anyone who has experienced this will agree that it is not enjoyable for any involved parties.

This photo was taken during a rare moment of rest this afternoon. A nice round of catnip helped calm her for about an hour. Judging by the sound filling the living room, love is in the air, and it's time to offer her some more.

Sweet dreams, I hope.
