Great Crested Grebe

An early start to get down into Lancashire for a meeting.  Fortunately the weather and the traffic were kind and it was an easy run. After the meeting and lunch I could have headed for home but I decided not to.

As the weather was reasonable - fair and not cold or windy, I decided to treat myself to a visit to Mere Sands Wood Nature Reserve not far from where I had the meeting.

I began by going to a hide I don't normally visit and there quite close was this Great Crested Grebe happily feeding.  As the shot shows it is still in winter plumage which is more than can be said for the Hawthorn, little green tufts were appearing on many of the bushes.
