Riddle of the Sands.

Anyone who has read that classic novel by Erskine Childers will know that the mud and sandin river estuaries are dynamic systems which are constantly changing form.

The Kent Estuary is true to the description. After every storm and high tide the channels will have move and new sandbanks will have formed. Even the course of the rivers changes regularly and moves from one side to the other.

Here is a little example of the patterns of erosion at just off Arnside. And that is not a vehicle track but part of the erosion of the sea washed turf. It will be built up elsewhere along the edge.
