Some things get better.

In the 1960s there was a general feeling that most things were getting better. I don't detect too much of that feeling today.

But here we have an exception.

Until 18 months ago our village Post Office was part of a card and gift shop. It opened from 9 to 5, closed for lunch, closed Thursday afternoon, Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

Then the Post Office part of the business moved to become part of our local newsagent, ministore and off licence.

So now can use our Post Office from 05.30 to 8p.m. Monday to Saturday and 06.00 to 6p.m. on Sunday.

So I can collect my pension at 7p.m. on a Saturday and immediately spend it on a couple of bottles of New Zealand Merlot.

Welcome to 21st. Century Britain.
