Mother's Ruin

Jigsaws, daffodils, robins, gin:
comforts one and all,
when all you can see and hear is rain
and the gale's incessant call.

Until last year gin had never passed my lips.
I don't know why.
But my children decided the time had come
to give it a try.
And I find it's nice
with tonic and ice
and a lemon slice.
