Blue At The End Of The Day
I went to work in the (pouring) rain. I noticed that it never stopped raining for the entire day. It was pouring when I left to come home and it poured on me as I walked from the bus stop to the house. It looked Grey, Dark Grey, Gloomy and there was not a hint of sunshine anywhere.
And then bang. Sunshine. Just after 5.
And now at 6 with the disapearing light, it looks as if the dark clouds are rolling in for another dumping of water.
Other than that, the highlight of my day was an E-Mail from H+1A+1L+1.
Last year we sent them a problem to investigate. They had confirmed that the problem existed and they were looking into it. Indeed the last note on the problem says "Needs more research".
E-Mail from H+1A+1L+1 today "We haven't heard from you in over 6 months, can we close this problem?"
Wrote back saying "Emm the problem is still there I don't think you can close it. It says in the problem log you need to investigate further"
H+1A+1L+1 wrote back "can you test it again?".
And the reply to that was "No. We can't test it. You wouldn't extend our free license for testing (although you said you would) and so we don't have that any more"
(You can tell what's coming, can't you?)
H+1A+1L+1 wrote back "Well, if you don't use that anymore then it's not a problem for you any more, so we'll close the problem record."
They are, in a very strict and narrow sense of the word, correct in saying that it's no longer a problem for us. But the unfixed problem is still there.
I shall adopt this into my every day routine. Someone tells me about a problem, I'll tell them it needs investigating. After 6 months, if I haven't heard anything from them, I'll just forget about it. I could do nothing for years like that and charge people millions for it.
