Lift shaft?

I always think of s lift shaft as enclosed but this view today in Waverley Gate made me ponder the definition.

Had a catch up meeting there this morning then headed back to the office for some lengthy discussions on the training programme for the coming year. We have a number of issues to clarify and the planned discussion on Thursday with Area Conveners should assist.
