Mardi Gras

Tonight we ate pancakes for dinner - to celebrate - we are so wild!!! 

This is a special Danish plate - when you make your open faced sandwich, which you do every day for at least one meal, the rim of most plates interferes with your knife when you spread the butter.  These plates are completely flat so it is easy to make your sandwich.  My grandmother had these and when she moved out of her house, she shared them with my mother and me.  There are 12 plates - one for each month - this is February.  The artist is Bjorn Wiinblad.  His designs are very recognizable and are found on lots of danish decorative items from the mid-late 1900s.
