Life is like a river

At work

Today is my son Dagur's birthday (24) and it's also Öskudagur/Ash Wednesday in Iceland.  It has been fun as usual to listen to the songs of costume-clad children and hand out candy in return. Lots of interesting costumes and some of the children had written their own new lyrics to old songs.  I was especially happy to welcome one group of children, the youngest of 23 Syrian refugees who came to Akureyri on January 19th.  They have been busy learning Icelandic, getting to know the town and a lot of Icelandic traditions and habits.  They were obviously happy to participate and charmed everyone with an international children's song, which they sung both in Icelandic and Arabic. (See extra photo today).

My self-portrait was taken just before closing time when I was reading and responding to the last e-mails of the day.

Oh, and this horrible death of a tourist in Reynisfjara was in the news today.  Please, please, if you are going to visit Iceland, do be careful and don't do anything foolish.  We have such a beautiful country but it can be very dangerous.
