Alone in London

London is such a busy and bustling city that it is not often to see someone alone in such a large space. I did a very interesting walking tour of The Strand today, up and down the little roads and alleyways that run between the Embankment and The Strand. I never knew there were so many beautiful Robert Adam's buildings in that area. We stopped for lunch at Somerset House, where I took this photo.

It was a beautiful sunny day, crisp and cold and I have added an extra to show that beautiful sky. After lunch we toured the Tower RNLI station which was fascinating - it is the busiest RNLI station countrywide, as you can imagine the River Thames is a very busy waterway and there is always some crisis that these staff attend to. While we were there they got a call out from the coast guard about someone who had a seizure on  the river bank - it is faster to get help from them than an ambulance due to the traffic in London. Although most centres are manned by volunteers, this centre also has 6 permanent staff members, and it is all financed by donations with no government support. We made sure to give a small donation to this worthy cause.

Back home again, and as I stepped off the train I was greeted by another beautiful sunset as can be seen in the extra photo.
