The World Through My Eyes

The Willibrordus Well

The Willibrordus Well in Oss is since the 146th century mentioned by writing sources, but the well is probably even older.
According to the tradition St. Willibrord (658-739) in the
early eighth century have preached on this site and
baptized. Near the well stood a chapel and a Willibrord tree.
The current well dates from 1926. The derelict state of the
original well, and the fact that it was located at the municipality Heesch,
was the reason that the well was rebuild on the other side of the road, about 12 meters in a northerly direction. For centuries there were pilgrimages to the well, of which the water would help for fever and childhood diseases. The arrival of pilgrims dating back to the period from the 17th to the 19th century, but given the relatively high profile of the well in previous centuries is likely to be a much older tradition...In the extra's you can see a plaque, a bust of Willibrord, adorned with miter and cross.

I was a bit disappointed by the fence around the well, it was difficult to take a nice photo of it. So if one of the Dutchies knows a beautiful sacred well or spring pleasssss let me know...

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments, stars and hearts for my yesterdays Blip! They all are highly appreciated... X
