Life's Journey

Olympic Torch Relay

There was no debate as to which of the many photos taken today was The One. My dear friend Ian was a torch bearer, and to see him running through the cheering crowds was overpowering.
You know how you can't believe the bad luck some people have, well, he's an inspiration. I first met him after a Liver Transplant...when he was running the Reading Half Marathon 6 months after the operation. He was raising money for the hospital where he had the surgery. In the end he raised £70000. In addition he ran the London Marathon, was World Tennis Champion at the World Transplant Games in Australia, as well as UK champion. The timing of the run is appropriate as this week is Organ Donation Awareness Week: due to the bravery of one family, the lives of Ian and a little girl have been saved.

Still dogged with poor health resulting from complications of his original illness, he has been to hell and back, several times. Even last week, we were worried he might be readmitted to hospital but today (as the musician playing on a boat on the Thames) was a Perfect Day. A joyous, life affirming experience.
