New camera fail...

I bought the Lomo instant wide online, it finally arrived yesterday (back-blipping). I went for a wander with the aim of capturing the crocuses with the close up attachment... Man, that was more difficult than I thought!!!!!! It focuses at 10cm, but as it is a zone focus camera, you have to measure or guess this. Also, the viewfinder becomes useless this close-up (I couldn't use it anyway, as it would have required lying in the flowerbeds!. Finally, the exposure seemed all over the place?! This is going to be expensive learning curve! And I bought it as a cheaper alternitive to Polaroid/Impossible!
