If you can't beat them...

Cormorant

Today we were going to a family get together for Derwent Lass's Wedding Anniversary starting at 6:00.  Katkatkat was down from Edinburgh for the event so to make the morning a little different we visited Up Front Gallery and tried to identify which picture was done by the wife of a blipper.

In the afternoon before the dinner we had a run to Whitehaven as a nostalgia trip for Clickychick who grew up there and a reminder for Katkatkat of the days when she used to visit her Gran in Whitehaven.  During a walk round the docks we explained how where we were was at one time forbidden territory being the fish quay surrounded by boats.  Not any more!  We also horrified Kat by explaining how you used to walk across the railway lines with the steam locos going up and down round the dock.  Admittedly very slowly and with much whistle blowing.

During the walk I managed to get this shot of a Cormorant.  I have often wondered why their profile is so low when you see them from the side.  This shot shows why nicely.

All that was followed up by a very pleasant evening of catching up and getting to know some of the generations younger than ourselves.
