Every Picture Tells .....

5820

I was at a loose end this afternoon as everyone was working so I went out for a spin in the car over the moors, down Cragg Vale and into Hebden Bridge and then over the tops to Oxenhope. I ended up calling at the station.

Although the cakes were still on display, the station buffet had just closed. I was in time to see the arrival of the last service of the day - Locomotive 5820 which was built in 1945 by Lima of Ohio in the U.S.A for the US Army to aid the war effort in Europe. It was shipped to Poland where it remained until November 1977.

The train featured in the 1979 film “Yanks”, which starred Richard Gere and was filmed on location in Keighley.
