The Storyteller

David here is one of the members of our writing group. He writes mainly poetry at the moment, which he prefers to call verse, but has written short stories in the past, and read a very moving one to us today. He is a very theatrical storyteller, and he delivers his verse in the same way. He creates wonderful rhythms with his language as he turns his poems into genuine performances. I would love to be able to read my own work in the same kind of way, with more confidence, and more expression. And more slowly. I guess it all comes down to practice, like most skills in life.

We spent some time today trying to decide how we want our group to develop. It started out with just the two of us and has grown organically to a core of about ten people. None of us really want the intimate and relaxed nature of our meetings to change, but on the other hand it feels right to nurture the talent here and push people a little to get their writing out there to a larger audience. It's a balancing act, and possibly quite a difficult one.

I've just noticed that David has become a bit of a blip star today!
