Mono-Monday: Ancestors - Hall Stand

MrsLinda has chosen the theme "Ancestors" for today's challenge.

This rather super hall-stand was made by one of Mrs C's ancestors - her Great Uncle, Billy Swain. As you can see, he was a dab hand at making barley-twist legs. We inherited the stand when he died in the early 1980s; he was well into his 90s then so I guess he'd be about 125 now.

The stand is usually swathed in coats, scarves, etc, so it was nice to take them off and remind ourselves how nice it is underneath all of them! The oak has lovely grain which I've tried to show well in this photo. We're fans of dark oak furniture so it goes well with our other items (we also have a nice sideboard, also made by Uncle Billy).

Thanks as ever to MrsLinda for hosting MM this month.
