Knight at ease

In Westbury on Trym Church this knight lies behind the parishioners' alter - curtains have been installed to hide him from children who are frightened!

The plaque reads:  Here under lyeth the bodie interred of Sir Richard Hill of Redland Court in this Parish, Knight who deceased the 29th Day of May in ye yeare of our Lord God 1627 aged 70 years

The extra is the tomb stone of the last person reputedly to be killed by a Highwayman - Richard Ruddle who was a coachman to a local worthy - murdered up on the Downs in 1743,
