Anatole's blips

So much snow

Out on the marshes today. These Aapa mires are teeming with life in the summer, buzzing with insects and a haven for birds. In the winter it is rather different. The snow and rime has been so heavy it bends the trees over with the weight. A little higher up the hills, the trees get stunted and broken by the harsh winter weather.

We skied for 25km today in this pristine wilderness and only met a handful of people on the trails.

Extras: Porokamppa. Our favourite hut in the area looking very frosted; lake Pyhäjärvi, and sundogs from the setting sun across Pyhäjärvi. The temperature dropped from a balmy -9ºC during the day to -15ºC by the time we got back to the car. -23ºC now as I contemplate going out to look for an Aurora at 23:00.
