Stuff and Nonsense

Kelpies

Another great day in Scotland. We headed over to Falkirk today to visit the Helix Park and the Kelpies.
The Kelpies are two 30 foot high working horses that were designed by Andy Scott and are the largest equine sculptures in the world apparently.
They were based on two horses called Duke and Baron and are a monument to horse powered heritage in Scotland.
They were absolutely stunning and really made us smile. This is a picture of my mum who I made "feed" one of the horses :)

In the afternoon we headed over to the Falkirk Wheel, not really knowing what to expect other than some construction to do with canals.
In fact it was really interesting and we were lucky enough to see it in operation as well.
It is the worlds only rotating boat lift of its kind and takes boats from the Forth and Clyde canal 24 feet up to the Union canal.

Not a sunny day, but a dry, cold and really interesting day.
