Via Verde

The Via Verde network stretches across Andalucia providing cycling and walking across some magnificent countryside. It is one of our favourite places to walk while here in Alcaudete. The paths were originally railway lines carrying olive harvests down to large processing centres. There are some interesting bridges on our stretch designed and constructed by apprentices of Mr Eiffel Tower!

Today with forecasts of rain we went out to see if there were any early flamingos on the salt water Salobral Lagoon. As you can see from the top picture they are having the same problem as we are with our pond in England...it is almost dry. So no flamingos this year. The last time there were none it was because the water was too deep!!!

The other two pics show the surrounding countryside with regimented olive trees in every direction.

We had to dash back to the car as hailstones hit us good and hard.
