Tour of East Lothian - Checkpoint 2

First event of the cycling season is the 105km Tour of East Lothian. A cold and windy day. The ride starts in Musselburgh, and heads through Pencaitland and Gifford before heading up Redstone Rig and control number 1. The climb includes several sections at 17%. After that, there's a technical descent in to Garvald. There follows a wind assisted rid east to Dunbar and control number 2. Lunch time as well :-) As i leave, it starts raining, as you can see from the picture above.

After lunch its west to Haddington, and in to the wind. Its pretty tough going, but the views of Trapain Law are really good. Checkpoint three is in Haddington at a café. Out of Haddington, we head north passing the Hopetoun Monument, and that is followed by a nice descent to Ballencrieff, then west to Longniddry. Where there is no cover, the riding is difficult. At Longniddry, its down to the coast, and a long slog back to Musselburgh. At Musselburgh a rider catches me up. He had been 100m behind me, but while the wind was in our face, he could not catch me up.

The ride finishes in the old town hall. Coffee and cake await. Ride home is done very slowly.

I am busy upgrading my laptop and mobile. So entries are few and far between. I will back blip them when Lightroom is working on the new laptop.
