Passing Time

So how do you pass a Saturday on a work trip to San Diego?

Well my friend decided to invite me up in his small white propeller aircraft (plane at the back of the picture). We had to take his friend from San Diego to an airfield just east of Palm Springs, where he would pick up a jet and fly it to an airfield north of Los Angeles, we would then pick the friend up there and fly him back to San Diego. So far so simple.

So picked up in my mates Tesla (not part of the story, but anyone looking for a present for me, please, please!). We flew to the airfield near Palm Springs. Now I was expecting a kind of Lear Jet, but no! We were picking up an L29 fighter jet training aircraft. Which was being sold to a guy who was moving his planes "up north". This is the plane at the front of the picture.

On arriving north of LA, we found ourselves in a lovely little aircraft museum. And whilst we were there they had a special visitor, a certain Bob Hoover. Now Bob used to be a Bell X-1 pilot. Indeed he was Yeager's back up pilot for the first Mach 1 flight.
