St David's Day

Today is St David's Day which is a national day of celebration in Wales, so I thought I'd take a photograh of The largest castle in Wales with daffodils. The daffodil or leek is a generic Welsh symbol. (The leek arises from an occasion when a troop of Welsh were able to distinguish each other from a troop of English enemy dressed in similar fashion by wearing leeks)

Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, has the first day of March, chosen in remembrance of him as tradition holds that he died on that day in 601 The date was declared a national day of celebration within Wales in the 18th century.

He was born towards the end of the 5th century. He founded a Celtic monastic community on the western headland of Pembokeshire where St Davids Cathedral stands today. He is famed as a teacher and his asceticism spread among Celtic Christians.
