Calm before the storm

This morning we left this lovely calm sea, viewed from the waiting lounge at Funchal airport, to head home to stormy Britain. I would call this a last glimpse of our holiday island, but the land you can just make out is not Madeira, but the deserted islands nearby, uninhabited apart from wildlife.

We had a happily uneventful flight, a smooth landing in strong crosswinds, and then drove home from Bristol airport through heavy sleet showers, followed by a rainbow to cheer us. It does feel cold, but that's hardly surprising. Now to re-acclimatise - and I'm not just talking weather. Where's the pool? Where's the lounge-bar? Who's going to turn our bed down? I tell you what: we have put hot water bottles in our bed. Just to air it, you understand. Not cos we're fruzz!
