Belhaven Saltmarsh

This strip of water forms at the edge of the salt marsh next to the inner dunes throughout most of the winter. Effectively it is an elongated pool and you have to cross it gingerly as it is very muddy and slippy.  This  is where the dogs and I usually cross over the salt marsh to the outer dunes as Baxter in particularly loves exploring the outer dunes as there are many rabbit holes there. It is strange to think that in Victorian times this used to be the edge of the beach and there are in fact old photographs of Victorian ladies and gentlemen picnicking here. The outer dunes are effectively an island that has gradually built up over the years as the sand and marram grass have gradually taken hold.
